Time For Apfelwein

Here's an apfelwein recipe I found over at homebrewtalk.com: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f81/edworts-apfelwein-33986

Apfelwein is basically hard cider. As you can see from the recipe it's incredibly easy to make - no boiling, pretty cheap and hard to screw up. I grabbed a six gallon fermenter for christmas so something like this can keep my 5 gallon busy for now.

I'll let ya'll know how it comes out!

Also going to start brewing mead. Finally had another bottle yesterday, it had been a LONG time since I'd had it. DAMN was it good! Seems like all the commercial stuff is pretty sweet, I'm going to try my hand at a drier mead that's better for drinking. I like the sweet meads over fresh fruit, or drizzled over something like angel food cake. YUM!

Only problem with the apfelwein and mead is that it takes a while to finish...looking at a month or so in the fermenter for the apfelwein, and probably a year or so for the mead. I guess as the good Alton Brown says, my patience will be rewarded ;)
